Aleris is a relatively young company, formed at the end of 2004 through the merger of Commonwealth Industries, Inc. and IMCO Recycling, Inc. Since then, they have strengthened the business through organic growth and operational improvements, as well as strategic acquisitions. In 2014, Aleris also made the strategic decision to exit the recycling and extrusions business to strengthen our focus on our rolled products business. In that way Aleris will have greater flexibility to concentrate resources in the areas with the highest growth potential.
Aleris’s site in Duffel operates one of Europe’s largest rolling mills. The plant, with its 1000 employees, is not only Aleris’s second largest production facility, but also the competence center for automotive. Recent investments in production and R&D (the worldwide innovation center for automotive has been established in Duffel) prove and reinforce the important role that Aleris Duffel plays within the group.
Throughout the years, Aleris Duffel has shifted away from volume commodity business towards state-of-the-art quality products with high added value. Today, more than ever, key values are quality, customer focus and operational excellence.
The R&D Engineer is part of Aleris Duffel’s R&D team. This team consists of specialized Metallurgists and has a focus on the domain of Formability and the correlation between the thermo-mechanical processing of the aluminum and its microstructure. The R&D team is part of Aleris’s Innovation Center for Automotive.
The R&D Engineer will investigate the fundamental interaction between process parameters and processed materials in order to make it possible to produce these products in a consistent way.
